- Design a framework in which to discuss implementation of shared governance and set the direction for reshaping professional nursing practice.
- Evaluate the basic structure of the selected model.
- Identify and simplify accountability of disciplines. Five basic constructs can be separated or combined in the design structure of the governing councils or bodies. All professional committees, tasks forces, and practice groups will eventually be folded into one or more of these disciplines and become part of a designated governing council.
- Create a professional overlay for designing individual elements of the structure. The accountabilities (practice, management, quality, professional development/education, and research) will be the basis of the formation of the governing councils, whether in five councils or in some other designated grouping.
