Registered nurses in California have the highest annual salary in the country at $113,240, according to data collected by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. This puts them well above the national average annual salary earned by nurses of $77,460.
After California, the highest average annual salaries were reported by nurses in Hawaii ($104,060), Massachusetts ($93,160), Oregon ($92,960), and Alaska ($90,960). Nurses in the District of Columbia were also among the top earners with an average salary of $94,820.
On the other end, the states in which nurses had the lowest annual average salary were Arkansas ($61,330), Iowa ($60,590), Alabama ($60,230), Mississippi ($59,750), and South Dakota ($59,540).
